Thanks. I learned a lot in the process of restoring her. I highly recommend old Ford tractors for folks who like to tinker. Can't do everything the new ones can, but gets me by as a weekend farmer.

Some say Henry Ford was a tough SOB -- he built a tough machine thats for sure

I spent me some time on a Farmall Cub just like that one using the sickle bar cutting fields. I can hear it now...raising and lowering the bar via the chain (see that blue chain coming down from the L-shaped actuator?), stopping and oiling the bar occasionally...man.

The first lever to the left of the steering wheel (seated view) is the throttle, the second operates the lift. The lever with the black knob is gear shift.

Thanks for this picture. I am remembering my grandfather, one awesome man.

BTW, we also had the plow, the harrow and the corn planter.

01 Case IH MX120, it's perfect for me, small enough to haul, but big enough to pull a shredder and discs.

It's a one size fits all for me, it handles everything from heavy discing to pulling out stuck trucks to maintaining the road to pushing in fence posts, and everything in between.

My personal favorite

http://www.maggiore.net/greenacres/images/e154.jpg
On the show, his tractor was a Hoyt-Clagwell. In reality though, his tractor was a Fordson model "F" built from 1917-1926 . This was the first actual tractor built and sold by Henry Ford (Ford Motor Company). It was named "Fordson" because of the involvement of his son in this venture. Ford Motor company was a sponsor of the show, thus his car being a Lincoln, Haney's truck a Model "T",and the Fordson. If you remember the show when Lisa bought Oliver a new tractor, the tractor dealer had all Fords, and I believe the tractor she picked was a Ford 6000 diesel. These were built from 1961-1967. The other tractor used at the beginning of the show start was a John Deere "GP" tractor. The "GP" stood for General Purpose, and these were produced from 1928-1935. The McCormick-Deering tractors were #1 in popularity back when these tractors were built, and John Deere was second in line. The three companies engaged in price battles for sales dominance, in which McCormick-Deering came out on to with Deere second, and Ford finally dropped production of the Fordson "F" in retreat. I would guess that the "GP" was his liking, but because of Ford's sponsorship, the Fordson was a requirement.

I bought this one new, 18 years ago. It's been worked hard, and has stayed out in the weather the whole time. Shame on me. It has a flat tire I'm working on right now. The rim rotted out around the valve stem and this thread got me to go out and weld a patch in the rim this morning. Now I have to go to a tire shop to get the rubber back on.

My 9 inch Mitts and Merrill only has trouble chewing on Cedar. Once I was chipping with the chipper not attached to anything (tractor, etc..) on the front and ran a cedar thru it. The chipper turned itself straight up in the air shooting chips sky high with the torque required to chew the tree. Lesson learned ... as now I only chip with the front of the chipper attached to something.

Good looking Craftsman....

By the way, I am still working on mine. I have the motor running pretty good and decided to go ahead and work on the rusty mower deck, Boy was that a chore! Every pulley on the deck was rusted pretty bad but with the aid of a wire brush and rust cleaning solvents I got the deck in good working condition. In fact, between sharpening the blades and get all of the pulleys turning effortlessly I think it cuts as good as the first day.

Unfortunately, I am having some sort of weird power issue. The motor runs strong but the minute I place a load on it the motor dies almost like it is fuel starved. Hopefully I will get a chance to work on it this weekend or next.

This is not my tractor, but mine looks exactly like it. It is an Indian made tractor (like TAFE's, Montana's, and more recently the John Deere 5103 and 5303's). It is called an Eicher 364. Eicher was a German company producing tractors back in the 50's that sold out to the Indian company. The tractor sold new at Co-Op. It had 60 hours on it when I got it. It came with a bush hog and a box (as well as the front end loader). It is 35h.p. --- air cooled. No water pump to mess with. It has been a great little tractor. Paid $5500 for it all out of Kingston, TN. The thing looks brand new.

'53 farmall super C
I saw this in the field of a guy down the road and wanted it for years and when he sold and moved on he sold it to me.
Transferring all the implements mounted required a lot of back and forth driving between his field and mine and that was fun.
I live in a not very agricultural town and folks really stopped what they were doing to see this old workhorse rumbling down the road.

I am not sure who made the engine, but I don't think VW. It is a 2 cyl., 4 stroke deisel. 35h.p. Forced air cooling. It barely sips fuel. The torque rating is 95.28lbft at 1200rpm with an RPM max of 2390. I really like the little tractor, but as with all foreign tractors ... if I ever break anything on it I am sure finding parts will be troublesome.

Intresting concept in a engine.....i have seen small diesel air cooled engines on things like portable generators......but its hard for me to wrap my brain around a air cooled diesel tractor engine...but thank you for sharing..

Nice rig! You probably get a couple of awards, while others may have tilt wheel, AM/FM/CD, and AC, most likely you have the only set up with cloth seats and carpet! The problem I see is unless you have real loooog fields, just when you get it up to 40 MPH, it will be time to turn around and head back the other direction.
